Cochlear implant offers you the hope of regaining hearing

February 14th, 2010 · No Comments · Product Review

As we all know, loss in the ability to hear or discriminate sounds clearly is a common disability, which will cause the patients to be depressed and suffer from the quality of life. If temporarily there is no cure for the hearing loss, hearing aids may help to improve your hearing. Cochlear implant, an electronic device created utilizing the advances in techonogy,  is such a solution of hearing aid for children and adults who have hearing problems.

Cochlear implant, also referred to as a bionic ear, is typically composed of components like the microphone, speech processor,  transmitter, receiver and stimulator. So, the cochlear implants are surgically implanted devices that help overcome problems in the cochlea or restore, at least partially, the severe hearing loss. The cochlea is a snail-shaped, curled tube located in the area of the ear where nerves are contained. Its function is to gather electrical signals from sound vibrations and transmit them to your auditory nerve. The hearing nerve then sends these signals to the brain, where they’re translated into recognizable sounds.

A cochlear implant surgery lasts about two hours to get each part of the device appropriately inserted into the corresponding  position of the ear. Patients can go home within a week of cochlear implant surgery.
